Persuasive Agents

The goal of the “Persuasive Agents”-project is to develop novel techniques for persuading the members of a household to save energy. To this purpose teams of psychologists (Eindhoven) and computer scientists (Tilburg) collaborate with Smart Homes, the Dutch Expertise Centre on Home Automation & Smart Living.

I am a Ph.D. student working at the Human Technology Interaction Group at the Eindhoven University of Technology and the Tilburg Center for Cognition and Communication at the University of Tilburg. I received a scholarship from the Chinese government to do a four-year PhD project.
My research project is about Persuasive Robotics. More specifically, my current research topic is facial expression generation and evaluation of those facial expressions by human observers. So: How to produce artificial facial expressions (using which models), and will people correctly recognize those facial expressions? My supervisor is Jaap Ham (TU/e), and my promoters are Cees Midden (TU/e) and Eric Postma (UvT).
My background is Computer Science (MSc) and Mathematics (BSc), and earlierly I mainly investigated projects about Information Security.

Role in project

My role in the project is as follows:
I investigate facial expressions generation and evaluation, to find out how to accurately generate facial expressions such that they are evaluated correctly. I plan to use my research results to generate and control the facial expressions of an avatar in the project.
